Legends: The Eraserheads Reunion Concert

August 31, 2008

Ely, Buddy, Marcus, Raimund — they are legends, no less. And they proved that tonight without much effort. The four of them up on stage with just their music is more than enough. As my friend Tonet put it, it was “surreal”.

I just got home from the concert and wow, what a night it was. got there at around three and immediately lined up for our VIP tags courtesy of Chino/Raimund/Jazz/Sony-BMG (thank you!). And then we got in and eagerly anticipated the magic minute to finally come. I was with Tonet, Marj and Van. We were already inside around 5pm i think and just sat there and talked. And then it was eight-pm. And nothing was happenning yet… until the countdown started, a 10-minute countdown. It was perfect. Best.Countdown.Ever. Haha.

5-4-3-2-1… and then the montage, and then… a familiar riff. It was Alapaap. Shivers man. And then the stage lit up and there they were, one band again.

May isang umaga, na tayo’y magsasama
Haya at halina sa alapaap
O, anong sarap… haaa…

Yeh. It was the best. Quite a definitive moment. It’s the first time i saw them performing together, ever. And it’s in this grandest of venues. Taena, napasa-alapaap talaga ako.

And then they went on to sing one Eraserheads classic after another… wow. And the one song i’ve been dying to hear them do in the concert, they got to perform — Sembreak. And i was happy. Tapos Kailan, tapos Kama Supra, tapos With A Smile, tapos Fruitcake (merry christmas!), tapos Hey Jay, tapos Toyang, tapos Kaliwete, tapos Huwag Kang Matakot, tapos Shake Yer Head, tapos Light Years, tapos Ligaya, tapos meron pa ba? Haha. Parang may nakalimutan ako. Ah alam ko na, Huwag Mo Nang Itanong.

Too bad the night had to be cut short, for very understandable reasons. Ely had to be rushed to the hospital because the “emotional and physical stress” that he’s been experiencing has, i guess, become too much already. If you haven’t heard yet, Ely’s mom just died last week so you could imagine how hard it must have been for him to go on with the concert. But he pushed on with it nevertheless. And i just have so much admiration for him for that, as well as for the rest of the band. Nung end ng first set, kita mo na medyo pagod na siya tsaka medyo nahihirapan pero tuluy-tuloy lang siya.

Kaya salamat. Salamat pa rin. Salamat sobra. I hope the band knows how much their fans appreciated the show. And i’m sure we’re all just one in hoping that Ely get better soon. And i love the Eraserheads. At salamat salamat SALAMAT sa inyo at sa inyong mga kanta.

Sana in the future may “isa pa”. Ituloy natin ‘to! Haha. Pero ngayon, magpakasawa muna tayo sa mga videos at recordings from the concert, i’m sure marami yan.

PG SPINS: James Blunt’s “I Really Want You”

July 24, 2008

It’s his new single AND I love it. Well it is James Blunt and this is me, so of course I’ll love it. But really, watch it. Quite ingenious. It’s obvious they didn’t have much budget to work with, but still they were able to make something really worthy. Nice addition to the James Blunt videography.

The song’s really good too. I love how he sings here… especially his phrasing.  Yeah. Haha.

Wazzup!

PG SPINS: Darren Hayes’ “Casey”

January 29, 2008

I love this song! Probably the best song from his epic 25-track album This Delicate Thing We’ve Made. And it’s getting a single release! Astig. Eto, the video just premiered a couple of days ago. Give it a listen.

If you guys dug Savage Garden’s Affirmation… well, this song sounds like it coulda just as well been part of that album… so you’ll like it a lot. Beri niiice!

Born: 1985, Age: 32

January 26, 2008

I feel like I’ve aged 10 years… just this month.

Something’s different. I don’t know what. I DO feel different though. And people seem to be noticing.

Yesterday, someone commented… “Mukha ka nang mama!” (as in “para, mama!” not mama = mom)

Then today, someone said to me… “Wow, you’re all grown up. I’m so proud of you!” — referring to a career decision I just made — then following it up saying, “Ambilis ah! (mag-act on the decision) Akala ko matagal pa before mo gawin.  (something to that effect) ‘Di ka pa naman marrying age ah… wala ka namang biological clock!”

I don’t know. Weird…

Not that it’s bad. But is it good?

I’ve probably had too much Ginseng Coffee… and not enough Chico & Delamar.

PG TV: BEST.AUDITION.EVER (And He’s Pinoy)

January 18, 2008

Haha! You guys watched American Idol tonight? Well if you didn’t, you probably missed the single most entertaining audition ever on Idol. Yes. EVER! And he’s Filipino — Renaldo Lapuz.

NOT the best singer, not by any means. But he was just so sincere with his audition and his song… he was a hit with the judges, and now, with the whole internet universe. Haha! I mean they’re selling merchandise off of his audition already… shirts, mugs, caps, etc.

Seriously, this guy’s gonna be huge! Bigger than Kelly or Carrie! Haha. Well, maybe not. But he sure PWNS William Hung!

Eto… be sure to watch the whole thing… as in hanggang dulo!

“I have a horrible feeling that’s gonna be a hit record…” – Simon Cowell

Sweeney… zzzzzzz… Todd

January 17, 2008

I fell asleep.

And no, not that I found the movie boring. It was actually really good… at least, judging from like the 40 minutes of it that I saw. Johnny-Helena-Tim is da sh*t! I really just couldn’t fight the urge to shut my eyes and doze off, as I didn’t get much sleep last night.

But hey, maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. ‘Cos the projection in that cinema was crappy… the sound too. Maybe that’s also why I couldn’t help sleeping. And I promised myself I’d watch this movie at a THX. So yeah. C’mon guys, let’s… G4!

PG SPINS: Katharine McPhee’s “Each Other”

January 13, 2008

Yeh I’m a fan. Yeh, she owns me.

This is probably my favorite off her debut. It’s a real nice slow jam. Too bad her music didn’t get much attention last year. Very underrated. This video is an acoustic performance of the song… brought to you by Rhapsody! (plugging) Haha.

Just thought I’d share this ‘cos the blog’s been getting stale… and I haven’t been in the mood to update much, or write anything lately. Plus, how cool is it that my first post this year’s about Kat. Might bode well for me and me luv. Ugh, Kat… call off your engagement! NOW!

BTW, Happy New Year guys! Let’s all have a great ’08!

PG SPINS: Adele’s “Chasing Pavements”

December 30, 2007

Waah… you guys have to see this vid. Sobrang galeng! The music video was directed by Matthew Cullen. Ganda ng concept. Panoorin niyo na lang. Hehe! The song’s not so bad as well. Na-stuck na nga actually sa utak ko the past few days. Adele — the featured artist — is predicted to become UK’s next big export, following Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse’s footsteps. Ayos. Go watch!
